    Background

    Several popular controlled substances, including opioids, connected with recent overdose deaths have been found to be counterfeit and contain fentanyl. Illegal online drug sellers notoriously sell falsified and counterfeit medicine. Some enforcement authorities point to these sites as contributors to the opioid epidemic.
