Prof. De Gier received his Pharmacy B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees (the latter in 1980 in the field of human psychopharmacology) from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. He is co-founder of the Institute for Drugs, Safety and Behaviour at Maastricht University in 1985 and served on the Institute's Board of Directors from 1993 - 1998. He..
