    Sterile compounding is a subset of pharmaceutical compounding where the compounded drug is sterile and absent of viable microorganisms. Compounded products are customized to meet complex patient needs due to pharmaceutical necessity, drug shortages or unavailability of manufactured products and pose challenges to community and hospital pharmacists
