After completing his Masters studies in pharmacy at the University of Uppsala and several years of toxicology research and teaching there, Sten joined the new WHO Collaborating Centre in Uppsala (UMC) in 1978 where he has since been a central part of the growth of the WHO Programme and Centre itself and its scientific activities.
