  Pharmacy plays a key role in the treatment of sore throat. Although most sore throats are of viral aetiology, patients with more severe symptoms are likely to seek antibiotic treatment. Patients visiting the pharmacy due to sore throat (including severe symptoms) should initially be encouraged to try effective non-antibiotic treatments.
