    Background: Pictograms are symbols which illustrate information. Medicine related pictograms have been developed, e.g., by the United States Pharmacopeia ( The comprehensibility and the usefulness of the pictograms have been assessed with adults, elderly persons and persons who have low literacy skills â€' rarely with children.
