    Background

    Recent guidelines make specific recommendations for the development of institutional programs to enhance antimicrobial stewardship (ABS).

    Such a program was implemented with goals to prevent unnecessary antibiotic use, optimize dosing, appropriate length of therapy and lower drug related costs.
