Erythropoietin stimulating agents (ESAs) are frequently used in the management of chemotherapy-induced anemia. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have created guidelines and reimbursement rules to improve the use of these drugs due to potential thromboembolic risk and impact on survival.
