Telepharmacy Needs Assessment based on Students’ Perspective in Indonesia

    Introduction

    Telepharmacy is the provision of pharmaceutical care through the use of telecommunications to patients. Covid-19 pandemic makes all activities should be limited. Currently, telemedicine is recommended for online health service. Many telemedicine platforms have been familiar in Indonesia, but no one has focused on pharmaceutical services.

    Objectives

    This study aims to determine the need for telepharmacy services based on the perspective of society, especially students.

    Methods

    The research design was a cross-sectional study with stratified random sampling. The number of samples contained in the survey found 249 students. Data collection was carried out for two months, March – April 2021. This study used an online questionnaire and had been tested for validity and reliability.

    Results

    Most of respondents stayed in Java area (78.7%). The study results showed that 46.98% of students had experienced with telemedicine and the most frequently used feature was a consultation with doctor or health professionals (70.94%). The most common reason for using telemedicine is the ease of getting a consultation with a doctor (88.89%). The need for telepharmacy features with the highest number of students is counselling with pharmacists (89.56%), drug information services (79.12%), and adverse events reporting (71.89%). Most of the students preferred to use chat or asynchronous method (85.54%) than voice call or video call. Students also trust to use telepharmacy if it widely accessible for 24 hours (96.00%) and using websites or applications platform (72.30%).

    Conclusion

    In conclusion, 62.7 % of students needs and will use telepharmacy to receive pharmaceutical care services if implemented in Indonesia.
