Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide with an estimated cost exceeding $500 billion per year in the US alone. Cardiovascular diseases are predominantly caused by atherosclerosis, a systemic disease, characterized by a chronic inflammation of the arterial wall with concomitant vascular lumen lipid..
