In the past excipients have been defined as inert substances used as vehicles and diluents for drugs. However, in recent years some excipients have proved to be anything but inert. Not only are they able to react with other ingredients in the formulation, they can also cause adverse and hypersensitivity reactions or can lead to clinically relevant..
