"EN-US">Medication is common in neonates, and drug-induced hyperbilirubinemia may occur. Also, this increase in free bilirubin level, not total serum bilirubin (TSB), may cross BBB and induce bilirubin encephalopathy without significant elevation of TSB levels, making the routine TSB testing not so useful while evaluating the impact of a drug.
