Aims: Damage to retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells will generally lead to degeneration of the neural retina as in retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration. We have previously discovered a growth-promoting factor specific to RPE cells (IOVS 2004;45:245-252,). Subsequently, this protein was found identical to the tissue factor..
