    I. Background: 1,2,4-Trioxolanes have recently been shown to be highly effective synthetic antimalarials. One such compound (OZ277/Arterolane) was recently approved for marketing in India in combination with piperaquine (Synriam[TRADEMARK]), and another (OZ439) is currently in Phase II clinical trials.
