Background:Serotonin (5-HT) is a major neurotransmitter that has been linked to a number of physiological processes, including emotion, changing in mood and the regulation of the sleep/wake cycles. Antagonism of the 5-HT2 receptor, in particular, has been implicated in the beneficial effects of some antipsychotics as well as antidepressants.
