Perspectives and policies on environmental issues in turkey

  • At: Istanbul (Turkey) (2009)
  • Type: Presentation
  • By: HINCAL, Filiz (Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey)
  • Abstract:

Turkey with a vibrant, young population of more than 70 million, covers an area of ~780.000 square kilometres at the crossroads between Europe and Asia. Almost 34 % of the population lives in rural areas. High population growth (1.33%) leads to high migration rates to the largest cities in the country, which causes major environmental changes.
