• Abstract:

  Background

  Traditional oral iron supplements commonly used in clinical practice cannot be efficiently absorbed and transported into the plasma due to the deficiency of FPN1 protein on the membrane of enterocytes. Moreover, the absorbed iron accumulates in organs because FPN1 expression was decreased and iron exported was impaired.
