Purpose: Language and literacy barriers between patient and healthcare providers are key factors affecting patient comprehension of medical instruction and ultimately affecting health outcomes. Using pictograms to supplement written and oral instructions increases patient comprehension. The authors sought to develop pictograms for type II diabetes
