Global consultation on the contribution of health professions to primary health care and the global health agenda
25-26 June 2009, Conference Centre Varembé, Geneva, Switzerland
The World Health Organization, Department of Human Resources for Health (WHO/HRH) is working in collaboration with a number of departments within WHO and partners to address the primary health care goals detailed in the WHO World Health Report, 2008, "Primary Health Care - Now More than Ever."
The four key reform areas detailed in this report are needed to achieve the ultimate goal of health for all aimed at reducing exclusion and social disparities in health. To achieve these reforms, now, more than ever, the health of people worldwide depends on health professionals working together across the boundaries of disciplines, professions and conventions to ensure the provision of equitable, patient-centred, fair, affordable, efficient and community driven health services.
To work towards a dynamic and collaborative approach in addressing the challenges of global health issues we would like to engage a broad spectrum of health professions in a global consultation on "The contribution of health professions to primary health care and the global health agenda". This consultation will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on 25-26 June 2009. The purpose is to discuss global health issues and how we can work together across disciplines to achieve the vision of a more equitable patient centered, fair affordable, efficient and community driven services. This consultation will provide an opportunity to network, raise awareness on current health and workforce issues of global importance, share experiences, identify synergies and acknowledge different perspectives. If consensus is reached it will conclude with the formation of a Global Health Professions Network and a draft framework for action that will guide our next steps.
