Dr Safeera Hussainy BPharm(Hons) PhD GCHE is Lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University, Australia and immediate past Stream Leader: Pharmacy Practice. She has a strong passion for women's health and her research over the last 7 years has focused on defining and improving pharmacists' performance as the key primary healthcare providers of emergency contraception (EC). Safeera is recognised by the pharmacy profession as the national expert in EC as her research, published in leading sexual and reproductive health and medical journals, has led to policy and practice change. Safeera is currently leading a mixed methods study that aims to further enhance EC access from pharmacies. She is working collaboratively with a team of other women's health experts, intervention specialists and organisations such as Marie Stopes International. Safeera has been Chief Investigator on 5 other government funded projects and has been involved in research that has attracted over $2 million in funding. She is the author of 43 peer-reviewed journal publications and has presented her work at over 80 conferences, 18 of which have been as an invited speaker. Safeera’s most recent authorship of women’s health continuing professional education (CPE) are a Pharmaceutical Society of Australia Women’s Health Essential CPE (2,456 completions since release) and Update on Emergency Contraception lecture and webinar (955 attended/viewed). An award-winning educator, Safeera’s undergraduate teaching has been recognised with student-, university- and Australian Government-bestowed awards. Safeera is also an Executive Council Member of the Academic Pharmacy Section and organized the successful world café on maternal, newborn and child health at the FIP 2016 World Congress in Buenos Aires. Safeera looks forward to exploring health literacy in this workshop through the lens of being a mum to a new baby. She also enjoys travelling and anything related to Bollywood.
