Colonel Matthias Meyer was born in 1968. He started his military career as a conscript at the German Army Aviation School in Bueckeburg before graduating as a pharmacist and as a food chemist in 1995 and 1999 respectively. Colonel Meyer’s has headed the Food Chemistry Section at the Central Institute of the Bundeswehr Medical Service in Berlin, and the Water and Ecochemistry section at the Central Institute of the Bundeswehr Medical Service in Munich. In addition, Colonel Meyer has worked as a Senior Pharmacist at the Bundeswehr Operations Command in Potsdam, as an Expert at the former Regional Medical Command III in Weißenfels, and as Head of the Pharmacy and Food Chemistry Section at the former Regional Medical Commands II in Diez and IV in Bogen. Prior to his appointment as Bundeswehr Commissioner for Medicinal Product Supervision in 2012, Colonel Meyer headed the Section for Principle Affairs in Military Pharmacy at the former Bundeswehr Medical Office in Munich and worked as Assistant Branch Chief of Pharmacy and Food Chemistry Regulatory Affairs at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn. In 2013, the office of the Supervision Commissioner was moved to the Supervisory Agency for Public Law Tasks of the Bundeswehr Medical Service South in Munich.
