Biographies Speakers


Prof. Michiho Ito is an Associate Professor of Department of Pharmacognosy, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University. She graduated from Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University in 1992, finished her Master course at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University in 1994, and she continued her research as a Ph.D. course student from until 1996. She was appointed as an Assistant Professor in 1996, and as an Associate Professor in 2003 at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University. She has a license of pharmacist, and has been active as a Chair of Special Interest Group on Natural Products of International Pharmaceutical Federation. Areas of her specialties are pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical botany. She has authored more than 200 scientific publications since 1993, many of them are studies on biosynthesis of essential oil compounds in medicinal plants, taxonomy and chemo-taxonomy of Perilla and Aquilaria, pharmacology of essential oil using inhalation system, and field surveys of agarwood, cinnamon, perilla, and folk medicines. Beside her main research and education activities in University, she is actively working as an expert member of committees in the society such as; the Working Group for Life Innovation, Council for Science, Technology and Innovation, Cabinet Office of Government of Japan; the Pharmaceutical and Food Safety Bureau, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare; the Editorial Committee of Japanese Pharmacopoeia; the ISO/TC249, and the ICTM project in WHO, and etc.
