Since graduating as a pharmacist at the University of North West, South Africa in 2000, Lizette had the opportunity to work across a range of pharmacy industries in six countries. While working for Kheth’Impilo AIDS free living, she has pioneered the implementation of a pharmacist assistant (PA) learnership program, training previously disadvantaged high school graduates towards a national pharmacist assistant qualification. In 2016, her Pharmacist Assistant programme attracted international recognition securing its place as one of the top 25 social innovations in the global south with nominations received from more than 48 countries worldwide. To learn more about Lizette’s successful Pharmacist Assistant programme view the following video: https://youtu.be/Cs1lYHYi5lw She has gained extensive experience in medicine management and good pharmacy practice at primary care level, including the training, mentoring and coaching of pharmacy support personnel and the implementation of alternative models of medicine delivery that result in better access to medication for patients while simultaneously contributing to the reduction in patient volumes at congested primary health care facilities. Lizette has also been involved in the development, implementation and training of Anti-retroviral adherence clubs, Community Adherence Groups and multi-month dispensing in South Africa, Zimbabwe, the DRC, Nigeria and Burundi.
