Introduction

The rapid acceleration of technology has catalysed innovations and advancements in all sectors of industry, creating disruptions and necessitating a re-evaluation of traditional processes and approaches to healthcare. Innovation in practice is necessary for practitioners to provide optimal care to patients - and pharmacists must face the challenge of embracing these developments. By adopting an innovator’s mindset, practitioners will be primed for the world of empowered patients and rapid improvements in health care delivery.

This session envisions a future where pharmacists are technologists: as a collective, they acknowledge and actively identify opportunities to embrace innovations disrupting the healthcare landscape. Through an overview of emerging trends, we will explore disruptive health technology and its impact on traditional solutions and standards of care. Mobile and digital health will serve to highlight specific opportunities where pharmacists as technologists can lead, in designing and co-developing the future together.

Ultimately, however, education is paramount to build the foundations for nurturing and inspiring the next generation of pharmacy innovators. Bring it all together, the session will examine the transformative potential of pharmacy education and training. Education has the power to transform our future generations through intelligently adapting to technology, and re-imaging traditional processes and educational outcomes. This will serve as our compass, as we navigate beyond the digital era.
