FIP has prepared a booklet to provide individual pharmacists and pharmaceutical organisations with examples of pharmacists' success stories and best practices in smoking cessation and tobacco control. With this initiative, FIP is encouraging pharmacists and pharmaceutical organisations to initiate and participate in tobacco control activities, together with other health professionals. To assist in the implementation process, FIP and the WHO Europharm document have prepared a document entitled: "Pharmacists Against Tobacco - 10 steps to get started".

World No Tobacco Day 31 May 2004: FIP Global Campaign for Pharmacists

FIP Press Release, 31 May 2004: Pharmacists play a key role in the fight against tobacco

During the last FIP Congress in Sydney, Australia, the FIP Council agreed to call for a combined effort of all FIP Member Organisations to promote the important role of the pharmacist in health promotion and public health policies.

One way to achieve this objective is to mobilise pharmacists around a major health issue, such as Tobacco Cessation. This issue was tackled through a global campaign for pharmacists on the World No Tobacco Day on 31 May 2004. The theme of the campaign was “The Role of the Pharmacist in Promoting a Tobacco Free Future”.

FIP prepared the enclosed material with the aim to promote the role of the pharmacist globally. A hard-copy of the material kit was mailed to all FIP member organisations at the beginning of April 2004. Should you have any questions regarding this campaign, or should you require electronic version of the material, please contact FIP at fip@fip.org.
