GLOBAL NETWORK

The Global Network of Pharmacists Against Tobacco, established by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in collaboration with the WHO EuroPharm Forum, is a global forum for pharmacists, pharmaceutical students and their professional organisations as well as other individuals or organisations interested in smoking cessation and tobacco control activities. The network was officially launched during the World Conference on Tobacco or Health 2003 in Helsinki, Finland, in connection with the Pharmacists Special Session.

There is good evidence suggesting that community pharmacists in Europe have a positive attitude towards non-smoking work and, although more education is required, their knowledge on smoking issues allows them to carry out these activities effectively.

An international network provides a good opportunity to explore other parts of the world, collect information and promote the role of the pharmacists as well as offer a possibility for pharmaceutical organisations and individual pharmacists to exchange their experiences of smoking cessation work in different practice settings.
