Learning objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, the participants will be able to:

  1. summarize the evidence supporting the use of information technologies in improving safety and improving patient outcomes;
  2. describe one approach to developing an IT system to support systematising care and recording patient outcomes;
  3. describe tele-pharmacy services including: where they are established, the equipment required, training involved, and the types of pharmacy services available;
  4. summarize key information technologies being investigated and implemented in pharmacies in order to improve communication and patient care for the following countries:  United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Portugal and Ghana.
