    Background
    The buccal region offers an attractive route of drug administration for systemic drug delivery. Ramipril, an ACE inhibitor, used to treat high blood pressure and conjestive heart failure, has an oral bioavailablity of approximately 28% due to its extensive first pass metabolism.
